Over $150 Million Collected for Plantiffs in 2011

Pradaxa Information

The chemical dabigatran, which is also known by its brand name Pradaxa, has been sold by Boehringer Ingelheim in the United States since October, 2010.

Millions of patients suffering from atrial fibrillation have been prescribed this drug in order to help prevent pulmonary embolism and blood clots.

However, due to FDA advisories and recent reports there are indications that Pradaxa may have some serious side effects.

After more than 500 reports of disability, injury and death from patients who were prescribed the drug and began suffering internal bleeding on a massive scale, the FDA announced it would begin an investigation in December, 2011

Researchers who have been examining data from clinical trials may be able to show that the maker of Pradaxa, German pharmaceutical company Boehringer Ingelheim, may have had knowledge that the drug could possibly cause serious or even fatal internal bleeding.

Ever since Pradaxa was released there have been health experts who have raised concerns. After only weeks of the drug's approval, the FDA's MedWatch tracking service had received detrimental reports on the drug that equaled to more than over 98% of the other drugs on the market.

It is important that if you or a loved one have suffered injury or death due to taking Pradaxa, you speak to a qualified attorney immediately. You may be entitled to substantial compensation for your loss, but, you must act quickly since time is limited.

Pradaxa Complications

Some of the complications of Pradaxa include:

  • Increased risk of heart attacks
  • Bleeding in the kidneys
  • Bleeding in the brain
  • Bleeding in the intestines

The FDA received over 500 complaints of death and serious injury due to internal bleeding from patients taking Pradaxa in the first 3 months of 2011.

There are many blood thinning drugs that may have a risk of internal bleeding, such as Coumadin (also known as Warfin). However, they can be effectively treated with reversal agents like PCC (prothrombin complex concentrate), plasma and vitamin K.

A very dangerous aspect of Pradaxa, that had been detailed in a report by the Journal of Neurosurgery on March 6, 2012, states that once the drug causes internal bleeding in a patient, there is very little that doctors can do to stop it.

Due to the fact that the makers of Pradaxa failed to warn patients of the grave side effects of the drugs as well as the lack of treatment available to combat these side effects, they are now facing thousands of lawsuits.

The qualified attorneys with Pradaxa Litigation Group have recovered millions of dollars for families affected by defective drugs and are filing lawsuits on behalf of those patients who have been injured by this drug.
